My Namesake – Ravage

My Dad may have found out my true identity, and I fear he also suspects my brother Frenzy. For you see, we are not your normal felines. No, we are mighty Decepticons from the planet Cybertron… and soon all your treats will be ours!

I was named after Ravage from The Transformers. My Dad is a huge fan, and gave me my name before I was even officially adopted. The name the shelter gave me, “Teddy”, simply would not do! MOL!

From Clicks To Tricks

March of last year I took a class with my humans at Best Paw Forward Dog Training called Beyond The Leash Level One.

In this class my humans and I learned how to communicate with a noisy little device called a clicker. It turns out that I love the clicker because (A) it’s all about positive reinforcement so a dog can’t do wrong and (B) every click means I did something right which means I get rewarded with a treat. But not only do I enjoy all the mouth watering treats, I also love figuring out what my humans want me to do. The clicker always makes me think hard and I love a good challenge!

At my first class I was a nervous pup and woofed a bit at the strange humans there, but it wasn’t long before I realized that this was a lot of fun and the humans were quite nice so I forgot all about my jitters.

Over the course of seven weeks (with a one week break in the middle) my humans and I learned many things together, and by the third week I knew what day class was on and would race around the house all Sunday morning (class day) making sure to keep an eye on my leash and collar so they wouldn’t leave without me.

This class is pawsome and I highly recommend it to every pup out there!

I learned so many fun and new things during my classes and now that my humans and I have the right tools and knowledge I continue to learn fun and new things every day.

I learned how to shake a paw (right and left), go to my mat, spin in a circle (right and left), touch an object or human hand with my nose, give a high-paw, sit in a box or put a paw in a box, put my paws on an object and move around in a circle (right and left), touch an object with my paw and so much more!

Games, however, are my favourite. My humans will put an object (or sometimes several objects) in the middle of the room and I have to figure out what they want me to do with it. I get a click and reward for every piece of the puzzle I solve. It is so much fun!

At class, I also got to practice my agility skills. Jumps, tunnels, hula-hoops, and lots of other different things to challenge myself with.

See the photo below? That board I’m on was noisy and I was scared of it at first. But after a few tries I was walking across it without jumping off at the end. BOL!

This yellow peanut ball (below) was a lot of fun. It helps us dogs learn balance and build our core strength and I loved it! I jumped up on it first try and sat down, stood up and turned around, lied down, jumped off and repeated.

I didn’t realize it at the time but this peanut ball worked every muscle in my body and the day after this class I was groaning every time I moved because my muscles were sore. I guess they had a pretty good workout! BOL! But that’s okay because it was worth it.

Frenzy would like to add that he thinks there should be a kitty class because he’s good at this kind of stuff too. BOL!

Maybe one day Frenzy… you never know.

Frenzy thought he’d try sitting on my homework booklet to see if he’d get a treat. Silly guy.

And then Deunan came over to see what all the commotion was about. Yep, my kitties are always keeping tabs on me. But I guess that’s what older siblings are for, right?

My Little Buddy Charlie

Meet my little buddy Charlie Chihuahua. He is one of my best friends!

Charlie and I met at my doggie daycare. He was really shy at first but I chummed him up and after that he became my little shadow.

Once in a while Charlie comes over to my house for a sleep over and we always have a pawsome time together!

Here’s Charlie and I hanging out on my couch.

Darko and Charlie

Charlie and I love to wrestle!

You may wonder how a big dog like me and a little dog like Charlie can do so, but it’s really quite simple. I just lie down. That way, he can chew on me and paw at me and run circles around me. BOL!

collage darko and charlie 1

When I do stand up to play with Charlie I always make sure to watch where I step. Luckily, I have lots of practice with my kitties.

Darko Charlie 2

Unlike me, Charlie isn’t much of a water dog unless it’s a really hot day but that doesn’t stop him from hanging out in an empty pool with me.

Darko Charlie collage

I love it when Charlie comes over for a visit. We always have a great time playing!

Frenzy, on the other paw, is not the biggest fan as Charlie LOVES our Mom and so he is always snuggling with her (unless he’s playing or napping with me, of course!) which means that Frenzy has even more competition than usual for his snuggles. I find it amusing and bark quietly to myself as I watch Frenzy glare at Charlie from across the room. It’s good for Frenzy. He needs to learn that Mom is not his all the time. BOL!

My Snowy Afternoon Walk

My afternoon walk today was super fun! I’ve never played in so much snow before in my entire life! It was amazing. A little cold, but amazing!

Snowy Afternoon Walk 5

About to head out on our walk.

And let the fun begin! Look how crazy I am!

Can you find me in the photo above?

I tried to walk out on the water because it looked like I could but apparently snow isn’t the same as ice. BOL!

I never realized how much fun snow could be until today. I had a blast!

And it’s pretty too. Don’t you think?

Catching snowballs. This is my new favourite game!

Snow is sure delicious!

Snowy Afternoon Walk 4

Yep, this is seriously my new favourite game! When you catch a snowball it explodes in your face and what’s left in your jaws you get to eat. It’s pawsome!

Snowy Afternoon Walk 6

My paw prints. Yeah, I know. My Mom’s weird. BOL!

Snowy Afternoon Walk 7

About to make our way back home.

And guess what happened on our way home? Some mean human in a vehicle drove by us really fast and my humans and I were showered from head to toes in gross dirty snow! It was awful. I won’t repeat any of the nasty words that came out of my humans mouths but I will say that it was not nice and humans need to SLOW DOWN in this type of weather. Especially when passing others walking alongside the road. They could have at least moved in to the further lane. Sheesh. Some humans. ***shakes head*** But it’s okay. We’re all dry now. A short while hanging out by the fireplace fixes everything.

Snowy Afternoon Walk 8

Still drying off from my walk. Frog kept me company. He’s a good friend and makes a pawsome pillow. BOL!

What The Dog Is Going On?

Okay. Seriously, this is getting a little out of paw. It is STILL snowing for the third day straight without stopping. It did slow down a few times but it never actually stopped and it is still snowing at this very moment.

You see, I live along the coast on Vancouver Island, Canada and we don’t usually get much for snow here. Maybe a dusting a few times a year. But on Saturday morning some time before I woke up it had started snowing and has continued to snow ever since.

I wasn’t very impressed at first. It is snow, after all. It’s cold and you can’t swim in it (or so I thought) and I’m a water dog that worships the sun so that was two paws down for me. I’m not saying I dislike snow I just didn’t understand what real snow was all about. But this year I got to find out what all the fuss was for.

A little bit of snow was boring. A dog can only lick up and pee on so much by himself. But a lot of snow is amazing! I never knew it could be so much fun.

You can bury your head in it, hop across it, attempt to swim in it, eat it, roll in it, burrow through it, slide over it, bury your toys in it and then pounce on them after they disappear, pee on it and do you know what I discovered today? Snowballs are a LOT of fun to catch! They explode in your face and what you catch you get to eat!

This white stuff is seriously barkin’ awesome! Which means I guess I need to eat my own paw for barking smack about the snow. I didn’t know. I was a clueless pup and I take it all back. Snow CAN be fun. Well, okay maybe not ALL back because there has to be a lot of snow for it to be this much fun. BOL!

Snow Day Feb 24 collage 2

Discovering the joys of snow. My humans didn’t seem quite as pleased as I was though.

Snow Day Feb 24 collage 1

Deunan and Ravage really wanted to join us outside but as soon as they got out they wanted right back in. BOL!

Snow Day Feb 24 -1

Look at all the snow! I have never seen so much in my life! My humans had told me stories but I never thought them to be true until today.

Snow Day Feb 24 collage 3

Frenzy loves any weather because he just likes being outside so the snow didn’t faze him one bit. Even when he would practically disappear in it! BOL!

Snow Day Feb 24 collage 4

I was really excited when Frenzy ventured out in to the middle of the yard and started running around him in circles. All I want is for him to chase me and usually he will do just that but today he got a little mad at me and ran away. I think it was because of all the snow I was kicking up. BOL! Sorry Frenzy.

Snow Day Feb 24 - 2

All the bamboo in the backyard is more or less a lost cause after three days of snow. My humans keep trying to shake off all the white fluff but it just keeps coming and so the bamboo bends lower and lower and eventually breaks. The supports broke the first night so you can only imagine how the bamboo is now.

Snow Day Feb 24 collage 5

I discovered something new today. Snow IS fun. ***excited barks***

Do you know what snow is? I didn’t so my humans had to tell me. If you would like to learn more about snow go read my post “White Wonderland” and it will fill you in on all the facts.

My Doggie Daycare

I’ve been attending doggie daycare since I was twelve weeks old and I love it! I have so many friends and we get to have a lot of fun together. It is pawsome!

My favourite is summer time because we get to play in the pools and play with this water-stick. Can you see me in the photo above? I am making my best gremlin face trying to catch the water from the water-stick. BOL!

This is the water-stick. It is my most favourite toy in the summer time.

Darko and Aquazooka - resized

And after a good play with the water-stick I’m usually soaking wet like in the photo below. Yep, I’m a crazy water dog.

If I’m not playing I am either napping, being silly and following my human Aunties around (below) or guarding Mom’s coffee (above).

I have lots of friends at daycare. Below I am playing with Flynn. I flop around on the grass and he runs around me in circles. We call it “Darko in the middle.” BOL!

I am quite the ladies man sometimes and I love it when the girls “beat me up.” Below is Sophie and Sophie taking turns chewing on me. I love every minute of it. ***wink wink***

And the girls are teaming up on me again. Below is Sophie and Honey (the ears at the bottom of the photo). We have so much fun together.

My blood brother Logan joins me at daycare once in a while and when he does we have a crazy time racing and wrestling! The girls love him too. I wonder why…

Below is Anon and I enjoying a good wrestle. She is pawsome and we always have a great time when we attend daycare on the same day.

White Wonderland

Darko snow Feb 23 b

Snow, snow and more snow. Do you see the look on my face? I just can’t believe this. We don’t get much for snow, maybe a dusting a few times during the winter. So for us to get over six inches is a bit crazy.

It still hasn’t stopped snowing but it has slowed down a lot so that’s good. I did have fun playing in the snow but I’m a summer dog. I’d much prefer a nice warm sunny day splashing in the ocean. Oh well. I’ll have fun in the snow while it’s here and hope that it goes away soon. BOL!

Do you know what snow is and where it comes from? I’m just a young pup so my humans have to fill me in on these types of things and I thought I’d share it with you.

“Snow” ~ from Wikipedia

Snow is precipitation in the form of flakes of crystalline water ice that falls from clouds. Since snow is composed of small ice particles, it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft, white, and fluffy structure, unless subjected to external pressure. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Types that fall in the form of a ball due to melting and refreezing, rather than a flake, are known as hail, ice pellets or snow grains.

The process of precipitating snow is called snowfall. Snowfall tends to form within regions of upward movement of air around a type of low-pressure system known as an extratropical cyclone. Snow can fall poleward of these systems’ associated warm fronts and within their comma head precipitation patterns (called such due to the comma-like shape of the cloud and precipitation pattern around the poleward and west sides of extratropical cyclones). Where relatively warm water bodies are present, for example because of water evaporation from lakes, lake-effect snowfall becomes a concern downwind of the warm lakes within the cold cyclonic flow around the backside of extratropical cyclones. Lake-effect snowfall can be heavy locally. Thundersnow is possible within a cyclone’s comma head and within lake effect precipitation bands. In mountainous areas, heavy snow is possible where upslope flow is maximized within windward sides of the terrain at elevation, if the atmosphere is cold enough. Snowfall amount and its related liquid equivalent precipitation amount are measured using a variety of different rain gauges.

Coldest Night of the Year

Today was walk day for Coldest Night of the Year. The team Mom was on raised $2,310.00 to help charities across Canada who serve the hungry, homeless and hurting. Go team Dog Gone Dogs! ***high paw***

Unfortunately, due to Mom’s leg injury a few weeks ago she was unable to participate in the actual walk but it’s okay because one of my human Aunties walked for her instead. Mom still got a toque though and of course she just couldn’t resist putting it on me and making me look silly. ***sigh*** But I guess Moms will be Moms. BOL!

It’s That White Stuff Again

Can you believe this? When I woke up this morning it was snowing like crazy. Everything was white. Then a couple hours later it all started to melt but it didn’t stop snowing. It’s still snowing right now and everything has turned white again.

I wonder if it’s going to snow all night… That would be a lot of snow.

Darko more snow 1

I’m squinting because snowflakes kept falling in my eyes and they’re cold. BRRR!!!

Darko more snow 2

Go away, snow! I wanted to go swimming today. Be gone by tomorrow or I’ll.. I’ll.. I’ll eat all the fresh fluffy snow and pee on the rest!

You have been warned.
